A campaign has begun to make food security an election issue.
Organised by the Commercial Farmers Group, a think-tank of influential farmers and other professionals, it points to a 24.6% rise in the value of food imports over the past decade and a record £9.8bn trade deficit in food. It called the government's approach to food security "short-term and imprudent to the point of recklessness"
