'Beauty from within' grows

The global market for foods and dietary supplements offering 'beauty from within' will expand rapidly in the coming years, according to a new report from Leatherhead Food International (LFI).

Soft drinks were the most popular vehicle for beauty foods, which were showing double digit growth, said LFI. However, cereal bars, dairy drinks and yoghurt were also well positioned to take advantage of the trend.

The maturity of the Japanese beauty foods market could give European manufacturers insight into where western markets were heading, said LFI. "Ingredients gaining popularity in Japan include platinum and alpha-lipoic acid as anti-ageing ingredients, as well as biotin (vitamin H - part of the vitamin B complex) for maintaining healthy skin, hair and nails."
